Importance of oral hygiene!
Research is increasingly showing a strong relationship between dental care, specifically gum disease, and various medical conditions. Gum disease has been linked to increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, premature birth and low birth-weight babies.
The two main diseases to affect oral health are:
Periodontal (Gum Disease)
A standardized oral assessment model:
Bleeding -gums and mucosa
Redness – Gums margins, tongue, antibiotic stomatitis
Ulceration – Size, Shape, an infected herpetic
Saliva – Xerostomia, hypersalivation,
Halitosis – Acidotic or Infected
Debris – any visible plague or foreign particles
